第一步，5个空中，of 是介词；introduced、named after 属于动词；meaning 在多数情况下是名词，mean作为动词，多以一般现在式形式mean，means，或者一般过去式meant出现，如果meaning作为动词出现，多半是非谓语动词，在句子中做状语；therefore是表示因果关系的副词。

第二步，分析各空。

1空中，考察固定词组in honour of, 如果同学们的知识贮备中有这个词组的话，可以第一时间判断此处应该填介词of。如果有的同学不记得这个词组的话，也可以通过句子中不缺少谓语，判断出不是填动词，而且1空前有名词honour 和1空后面有名词词组the Greek god Zeus，可以判断出此处应该填介词。因为一般介词of出现在2个名词间，表明所属关系。例如：the lid of the box 箱子的盖. * the responsibilities of a nurse 护士的责任.

2空中，句子有is, 不缺少谓语，不会填谓语动词，但是此处句意是“athlete”的意思是什么，2空后是名词，此处只有可能填非谓语动词。

3空所在的从句中缺少谓语动词，4空所在的主句中缺少谓语动词。

5空中的句子似乎是通顺的，什么也不缺少，如果把5空去掉，似乎也是可以的，在这种情况下，可以判断出5空一定填副词。因为副词是对句子起修饰作用的，有时去掉副词也不影响句子整体。

第三步，两相匹配

根据以上分析，可以判断1空填C. of， 2空填D.meaning， 5空填E.therefore

第四步，联系上下文

3,4空都要填动词，根据上下文，这里介绍的是马拉松运动的历史。3空前的句子讲到马拉松并不是一项古代的奥林匹克运动，而是一项现代的运动，后面的从句中，在3空前有first，因此可以判断这里应该填A.introduced引入、引进。

4空后面已经有a village，其后的定语中已经有Marathon，可以推断出这里应该填 B.named after 根据…命名。
